Manpower's May 2009 Talent Shortage Results Report is interesting for consultants because when employers cannot find a skilled employee, they often turn to consultants and independent contractors to help fill the gap. Even in the current recession, some skills are still in high demand because of the shortage of skilled talent.

"This report details findings from nearly 39,000 employers across 33 countries and territories to determine the extent to which talent shortages are impacting today's labor markets. The results of the fourth annual Talent Shortage Survey revealed that 30 percent of employers worldwide are having difficulty filling positions due to the lack of suitable talent available in their markets, which is only one percent weaker compared to last year's survey, despite the global economic downturn."
